    I’m back!

    I’m back!

Well, that was an unexpectedly long hiatus. I didn’t intend to take a break from writing blog posts, but I was very focused on the end of my youngest’s senior year and getting both kids off to college for the first time. They’ve both settled into their new collegiate lives beautifully, and now I’m freeeeeee.…

A Spring Hare Smells the Roses

A Spring Hare Smells the Roses

A friend messaged me in March. He asked me if I would paint something as a gift for his wife. I was honored to be asked. Wait. I need to go back earlier in time. This is not where the story begins. A friend messaged me in October. She asked me if I would paint…

    Blossoms & Bees

    Blossoms & Bees

I like taking photos of flowering fruit trees that are full of bees, although it’s taken me a very long time to learn how to get a good photo of these tiny blossoms and the pollinators who visit them. It’s become an annual spring tradition for me to settle myself next to one blossom-covered tree…

    Pond Life Watercolor

    Pond Life Watercolor

I took a week off from posting, painting, and photography, because I was visiting my parents for my dad’s 80th birthday. It was a nice trip, but I’m glad to be back home. I decided to finish this pond life painting when I got back home. I sketched it about a month ago, but didn’t…

    March in Albuquerque

    March in Albuquerque

March in Albuquerque is an adventure that carries us from winter into spring. We get a little bit of everything in March. We have gloriously warm and sunny days. We have miserably wild and windy days. We have freezing cold and snowy days. The weather changes constantly, hopping back and forth from winter to spring…

Two Birthday Paintings (plus a little something for myself)

Two Birthday Paintings (plus a little something for myself)

I seem to be settling into a regular painting routine again. I’m glad! I was a bit worried this might not happen. I painted something every week for over a year, but then I struggled with motivation over the winter. We had lots of visitors over the holidays and did some traveling, but I still…

    Make it PINK

    Make it PINK

The baby flamingo at the Albuquerque BioPark is slowly starting to grow his pink feathers! He was hatched on June 28, 2024. He joined the flock out in the public part of the park in October. He was just a small grey boy back in October. He was a 3 feet tall, but still much…

    Stick to the plan!

    Stick to the plan!

I almost always start my paintings with a pencil sketch. I’m in awe of the watercolor painters who can just start painting on a blank paper and end up with something decent! I can’t do that. I need to sketch what my painting will look like, and I usually regret it if I don’t stick…

    Gorilla Family Photos

    Gorilla Family Photos

Monday was a glorious day here in Albuquerque. Monday is usually laundry day, but past-me was clever enough to do the laundry on Sunday, because I wanted to take advantage of the beautifully warm and sunny weather predicted for Monday. Good job, past-me! I headed to the Albuquerque BioPark Zoo with my camera once I’d…

    Watercolor of an adobe church

    Watercolor of an adobe church

This week’s watercolor painting is of an adobe church in Santa Fe. I painted this for a friend of mine. She asked me to feature southwest architecture in her birthday painting. I really like how the cerulean blue contrasts with the brown of the adobe, and how the shadows and granulation turned out.
